Default Head problems...the truth.

Lets find out the real truth about head problems. As stated before we get an unbalanced view as only those who have problems post on here. All the others with no problems say nothing, So people thinking of buying one of these buses visit the site and only see the problems ones being talked about.

So lets get a balanced view.

My head problem was inherited by incompetence, I bought my bus (a bargain) and the seller was a garage that repaired big buses, he had repaired the head but had not mentioned this, the head had been welded between the valves on no1 and no 4 and the crack had reappeared at no1 no doubt helped along by the fact he used a cheap copy head gasket, so it's days were numbered anyway, the bus had covered 178,000km at the time of the failiure.

Yep Bob just replaced mine as well, odometer read 63,000 and it is a 1997 4WD. As usual it happened after a long journey coming back home from Scotland.

201000kms and still chugging along happily (when I'm not blocking it with veg). Although heads/head gaskets seem to be a common thing among diesels not just the Estima.

Had Estima for over two years now, several trips to Belgium/Holland and France, loads up to Scotland (Kirkcaldy and Bo'Ness with the odd trip to Stirling)and a few down to Wales (Camarthen) Keep changing the engine oil, keep an eye on coolant/temp and running it on 60/40 veggie/diesel, seems fine up to now

the head went on mine but i had it for two years before that. never let me down. as said before, most people come on here when its too late, i did. without the manual and this site how could you know about the frequent service requirements. plus with a non import car you could go to any half decent garage and get work done easy.

I think the vote should be did you come to the site because you had head problems or because you were looking for a club.I was the latter but then a year later suffered a cracked head.
