Just found this on t'interweb
Quote:
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
Japan is in the same region as us for DVD codes

Although it also says this
Quote:
however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.
Which could be bad news although I'm not certain

I gave up on trying to make the Japanese goodies work. I went & bought a Pioneer AVIC D3 head unit, which has integreated DVD, CD, Sat nav, radio, bluetooth etc. It also controls an iPOD, I also added an 80Gb iPOD, which gives us a cpapcity of over 25000 songs. So far I have put nearly all our albums on the pod, which amounts to in excess of 6000 songs, about 600 CDs in total.
Excellent & fits perfectly using the fill in strips that can be bought to go down the side of the head unit to fill in the gap between the double DIN size of the unit & the 'extra' width that Toyota put in the facia.
At least it's all in English now & I even loaded a 'Toyota logo' as the boot up splash screen on the head unit.

Regards, Rob.

Hi Paul,

Loadsa questions.
Yes, I will post s piccy or two, once it stops raining here.
No, I gave up on all the losers selling them on Ebay, one in the UK sold me a duff unit, which he then claimed was OK & I lost over 100 quid on it, we're just starting the Ebay complaints procedure to make him pay me what he owes. Then I bought one from a supplier in Hong Kong, they emailed me back a couple of days later to say they hadn't actually got any of what they had sold me, did I want to wait 3 weeks for new stock. Naturally I got a full refund.

I ended up going to a business aquantance's ICE shop & buying a Pioneer AVIC D3 head unit, which has DVD, CD, Ipod control, Radio, sat nav & bluetooth on it. Nice, it was in stock & I took it away to fit straight away.Looks nice & works really well, especially the sat nav, as it uses the speed signal from the dash & gyros as well as the GPS for vehicle position. The cheap HK ones are GPS only, not as accurate. I fitted a reverse camera from Ebay which works well on it & also fitted a flip down screen & DVD unit in the rear ceiling for the kids, they also have infra red headphones so we can listen to head unit while they watch a movie in the back. It's peaceful & bliss.

As regards the remote locking, not done any more yet, we have got an ordinary key, so we're making do with the one remote at present, one day when I'm feeling a bit richer I might get an extra remote fromToyota.

See you, regards, Rob.
