Default The boy doesn't seem well.....

Toby seems a bit out of sorts.....losing some water, and the other day he actually got a bit warmer than usual....which I'm watching cos I've got a new warrantied head on him. His temp went just over the pic of the thermometer, where usually it is just below, but the Mason alarm didn't sound. As soon as he had cooled, he took just over a pint of water, but he still ran a bit on the warm side. He sounded as sweet as anything though as he was running.

The gearbox is changing smoothly after the oil change, although it does seem to me that it is changing later than it was....more revs before it changes.

The oil light came on tonight too....although it wasn't down when I last checked it, and it hasn't been anywhere to use the oil....

Still bad starting, although facing downhill at Glyn's tonight it started better.

I might PM Toby's uncle Bob to come and check him out cos of his new head.....cos I'd hate to run him to Bromsgrove and anything go wrong.

the poor starting could it be the fuel filter housing, the reason i ask is mine was flattening the battery every morning trying to start spoke to bob and he told me to try bypassing the fuel filter and it has started first time ever since

Glyn is picking up new filters and glow plugs to try those for the starting, and after that will be the fuel filter.

I'm going to just do my favourite trick and take the rad cap off to make sure there is no air coming up.....oh I have missed doing that...... and then check for water leaks again when it's hot.

One thing that I's wondered about is, with him standing for a few days at a time over the cold weather, if the oil has thickened up, so Glyn is going to change it before Bromsgrove.

It won't be much that is wrong with him....just a few bits like filters etc......but I need to make sure the water side of things is ok cos of the new head.

Perhaps he needs his pipes cleared again

Oh no..... never again.....

I left Toby running with no rad cap on, and then left it to cool, still with no rad cap on. As it cooled, the water level went down, and I kept topping it up. It went down quite a bit. Now when I stop there is no 'gushing' sound from the dash.....so I suspect there was a bit of air somewhere.

The water level is now ok, and the oil is ok too. I have remembered what might have caused the oil to be low.....I went to check it some time ago, and couldn't get the top off....so I was going to ask Glyn to do it, but then forgot..... and it isn't like when I was at my house, and I just wandered up the garden a couple of times a week and kept checking Toby over....now I just go up to mine and collect him....no time for checking while he is standing level....so a new routine is needed.

He is still running slightly hotter than before, although the alarm isn't going off....the temp gauge used to sit a hairs width on the left of the thermometer....now it is either on the thermometer, or an 8th of an inch over. I have noticed that I don't get the 'lock up' now on the gears since having the fluid changed. If I knock the over drive off, then on again, I think it the lock up comes on, but I'm not sure....the overdrive knocks it down, then I think it goes down again but I need to take it for a longer run to be sure. But if the lock up isn't coming on, which on mine drops the revs down more, then that could well be why it's running hotter.......

Any ideas on why the lock up wouldn't be coming on?

If the engine is not up to temp it will not lock up, you need to do a 10 mile run to check. Other than that I've no idea not something I have ever done I'll have a read on Ace Answers.
