why not use spanners like Haynes does.

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall.
Torque is how far you take the wall with you.

One way round this is for the poster to say whether he has much knowledge or not as he rates the tutorial.....for instance...

Bob would say something was an easy job, but he is a mechanic.

I would say it is a hard job, but I know nothing about cars.

Great Id imho F/T. But can I be so bold to say we should try to keep it objective otherwise we'll get bogged in discussion- suggest we agree (or otherwise) rating is a good idea first y/n.
If Y, go on to the how do we rate 'em?
We should then ignore the inherent skill set of the person considering the work (too many variables) and rate the jobs against the other jobs; so tyre pressures is clearly easier than fitting cat1 alarm, cat1 alarm is easier than cam belt, cam belt is easier than head gasket, head gasket is easier than engine replacement (or about the same), until you have all the existing tutorials ranked in degree of difficulty, then split them into levels - I'd suggest 5 as a coarser cut makes it esier to tell when you move from one level t't'next, and those difficult ones to call will fall in the same band any how.. Don't make no odds IMO whether they're spanners or oilcans or just a number... Not sure how you rank new submissions, either by a skilled moderator, or by the contributor but the coarser the 'cuts' the easier it is.. So there's my pennyworth.

I was thinking 5 steps, but, that would be a bit coarse IMHO

If 1 was can check oil
2, can oil change,
3 can take an ( external ) engine component off ( fuel pump, starter etc )

up to

9 cam belt

10 cyclinder head

But, having typed this out and tried to think what would fit in each category, maybe 5 would be enough

5 was just a suggestion, 10 seems a lot , if 5 is too few we can have a 5* or 6 - there our rules to make or break, ennit?
