Lightbulb How does this veg oil thing work?

Hi,
I'm curious as to how this whole veg oil thing works. Can I just start dumping 'spry crisp n dry' into my fuel tank? How does that work especially when I saw some customs people in town yesterday dipping fuel tanks. I'd hate to have to explain why there's veggie oil in there opposed to the usual diesel. . Although with the price of a litre of diesel over here running at €1.27 ish a litre I'd love to be able to get away with the occasional litre or 10 of veggie oil.....

You dont say where you are,,tank dipping here is mainly checking for RED Diesel, domestic use providing you dont use more than 2.500 Ltr no tax is in volved.
Yes providing you DONT use Sunflower oil (filters dont like it) you can pour it straight in ,i run 50/50 Diesel/Veg,but be prepared for people asking where the chippy or doughnut shop is.
Dare say others will be along ,to add there bit.
Good Luck

Nice one, I don't suppose those tax rules apply to rainy auld Rep of Ireland? I suppose I'd have to keep receipts etc just in case Mr. Tax Inspector decided to get inquisitive. Car is due a new engine next week I'd hate to kill it by trying to save a few quid. Are there quality issues? I mean could I get away with a 50/50 mix of diesel and tesco own brand cooking oil (not sunflower)? I'd hate to have to spend all that time decanting oil for little or no reward. Although going to the check out every week with 50 litres of oil would raise a few eyebrows
Do you get the same fuel economy with veg?

I don't know if anyone would find this interesting ... http://www.corkcity.ie/ourservices/r...ad,2208,en.htm

I have an Esti Emina 95 2.2td. Or will again when the new engine is put in .
In that link I added to the above post I found a bit where it states that drivers in the Republic are not currently being charged duty as veggie oil is currently taxed as a foodstuff unless it's being sold specifically as a fuel. If I can get away with €0.69 cents a litre in tesco or wherever as opposed to €1.27 a litre of diesel I'm a happy camper. I can deal with the 'Hi can I have a bag of chips and a cheese burger' quips.

I rang the people fitting the engine this morning, they'd just taken out the radiator and according to the bloke doing the work it was rotten. They were going to pull it apart and see if it was salvagable ... if the rad was knackered I suppose that helped kill the engine . I'll give em a ring on Monday and see what the story is then ....

Simply if your radiator is knackered the cooling system will not function correctly and that will almost lead to cylinder head failure
