| Timber wolf you will enjoy this one. There is a owner of 3 Dakota`s based at Coventry Airport, the end of June these aircraft will be grounded forever due to EU laws. Now remember these aircraft served us well during the war and the Berlin airlift and they are used these days for Historical flights and displays, anyway this is what the EU people have come up with 1. All aircraft must be fitted with emergency exit chutes. 2. A bullet proof divide between cockpit and cabin. This is a good one 3. All aircraft must be fitted with Emergency drop down air supply. 1. Do you know how high the door on a DC3 is off the ground , approx 3ft it is physically impossible to fit a chute. 2. These are not the sort of aircraft that get highjack as i say they are Historical aircraft. 3. Emergency Oxygen was built into aircraft to aid passenger should there be a sudden decompression and below 10.000ft can be removed. The engines on a DC3 are normal aspriated engines ,if you were in need of oxygen ,your engine would have already stopped working. so end of June there will be a "Say bye bye " flights 1 from Coventry ,1 from Doncaster not sure where the third will fly from Last edited by Ace of Diamonds; 19th April 2008 at 03:03 PM.. | ||||||||

| From the daily mail - Now the Douglas DC-3 - the most successful plane ever made, which first took to the skies just over 30 years after the Wright Brothers' historic first flight - is to carry passengers in Britain for the last time. Romeo Alpha and Papa Yankee, the last two passenger-carrying Dakotas in the UK, are being forced into retirement because of - yes, you've guessed it - health and safety rules. Their owner, Coventry-based Air Atlantique, has reluctantly decided it would be too expensive to fit the required emergency escape slides and weather radar systems required by new European rules for their 65-year-old planes, which served with the RAF during the war. Mike Collett, the company's chairman, says: "We're very saddened." The end of the passenger-carrying British Dakotas is a sad chapter in the story of the most remarkable aircraft ever built, surpassing all others in length of service, dependability and achievement. I read that as grounded as passenger aircraft not grounded as aircraft. | ||||||||

| Next month, Romeo Alpha and Papa Yankee begin a farewell tour of Britain's airports before carrying their final passengers at the International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford on July 16. But after their retirement, there will still be Dakotas flying in the farthest corners of the world, kept going with love, dedication and sheer ingenuity but not in the UK | ||||||||

| London Times Obituary of the late Mr. Common Sense Interesting and sadly rather true. 'Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, whohas been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. Hewill be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets theworm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend morethan you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are incharge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspendedfrom school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired forreprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing thejob that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; butcould not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when youcouldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglarcould sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; hiswife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. Heis survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.' | ||||||||
