check your glow plugs, i could start mine fine without reving , no smoke, used the revs a bit and hey presto some smoke, also did it on driving, you reduce the revs, then rev again and more smoke. i had two glow plugs that were not working so i kept dumping unburnt fuel into the engine, this produced the smoke, i hope this helps, cheers ...steve...
