| check your glow plugs, i could start mine fine without reving , no smoke, used the revs a bit and hey presto some smoke, also did it on driving, you reduce the revs, then rev again and more smoke. i had two glow plugs that were not working so i kept dumping unburnt fuel into the engine, this produced the smoke, i hope this helps, cheers ...steve... mmm, did not read the bit about turbo not kicking in...sorry.. | ||||||||

| It's the lever/rod attached to the turbo and actuator. What it does is control boost, If it's not shuting correctly due to soot/oil or the actuator is faulty you will be getting delays with the turbo. The egr is the system of pipes that run from the exhaust to the inlet manifold. Lots of black smoke/soot are associated with egr but could also cake the turbo with crap causing the boost delays. Just an idea mate. | ||||||||

| What & where are the Wategate & EGR? Knowing what something does & where to find it makes life so much easier. Cheers | ||||||||

| Thanks all--now I seem to be getting somewhere. Sorry about the repeated questions--I was wondering why my posts were not going through--then found page 2. | ||||||||

| Did all that was suggested but no luck. Had an oil leak--in fact oil was being forced up the dipstick housing. Read an unrelated posting about crankcase pressure & tried the solution--i.e removing the oil filler cap, taped on cloth & ran around for awhile. Definitely have crank pressure!! Think Jay could be onto something, i.e pipes blocked in/to & from turbo. Need to sort crank pressure first. Where does breather run from/to? Easiest way to clean? | ||||||||

the crankcase breather pipe goes from the left of the oil filler tube and then travels in front of the cambelt cover and then gets fed into the turbo intake pipe. thats why the gasses from the crankcase end up in the intercooler pipes.. it has to be fed to the intake BEFORE the turbo as the turbo pressurises the system so it cant be fed after the turbo..
