interesting read, I see you are from down under as well
I love my estima, but with petrol prices going through the roof I don't like the fuel consumption!! Your diffuser work looks very interesting, and definately worth looking at doing myself.

Looking good will be watching this one closely could come in handy considering how prices keep shooting up (even for us veggie users over here)

I'm not all that fast a driver but do accelerate quick off the line (or as quick as the bus will let me), must learn to take that bit easier as it must be costing me a fortune.

As to fuel savings I've proved to myself that you don't really get where you're going much faster whether you're doing 50mph or 80 as the stop start bits of the journey seem to take up most of the time. I just need to keep that in mind when I'm driving

I must have missed this before, but I found it fascinating!

Best fuel economy mod I made recently was taking out the back seats! They weigh quite a bit and I rarely use them for passengers. I'm thinking seriously about taking the second row seats as well. That would leave a huge load space and the two seats that is all I need.

An airbed in the back would still work when camping and the bus would be much lighter.

And the mod is quickly and easily reversible, too.

Great post clint its amasing what a few simple mods can do to improve fuel consumption, i take it that as a lot of the buses are fitted with body kits then that there drag is reduced a bit anyway so by adding the underbody diffuser would increase there fuel consumption if so i better get me a body kit soon because my fuel consumption round town is rubbish. Keep up the good work clint is does make for some great reading.

The tank is about 65lt but that is not how I go about measuring what I get from guessing the tank size.
When I do testing, I always fillup so that the fuel is visible in the filler neck.
That way you can guarantee that it is full. I then do my road test and fill it backup again to same spot in the filler neck and record how much was put in.
That trip had about 50odd city Km of driving, I had a jerry can with which I filled up exactly 16lt of fuel incase I should run out as I was pushing to see what the van would get.

From adding up how much fuel was put into the van during the trip and when it was finally topped up I got 870Km from 76.39lt.

About 10lt over the tank size.

My best run of 7.98 would get on 1 tank 814Km by my calculations but would be bone dry..

With my engine close to finished, my torque convertor worked over with reduced slip, my head work and ceramic coatings with my lighter rotating mass on the crank and drivetrain plus more permenant aero mods Im hopping to break below 7lt/100km or +900Km out of a tank.

Rome wasnt built in a day but it is coming.
