Default RIP Robert Dunlop

Quote:LEGENDARY road racer Robert Dunlop has died following an accident at the North West 200.
The multiple TT and Billown circuit winner died last night (Thursday) after the crash during a practice at the event in Northern Ireland.

Dunlop, brother of 26 times TT winner Joey - who died in 2000 at a road race in Estonia - had won at the NW 200 many times.

The Press Association reported his bike appeared to seize at the Mathers Cross section of the course. He was rushed to the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine, Co Londonderry, where he died from his injuries shortly after 10pm.

Gutted by this - I've seen him on the island and he was one of the greats.
Condolences to his wife Louise, and 3 sons William, Daniel and Michael.

He didn't seem to make mistakes, just the bike sometimes let him down - I remember in '94 he had a rear wheel collapse in the TT at Ballaugh - I was marshalling up at the mountain box, and the news went around like wildfire.
I really believe that if it were not for the injuries he received in that accident, he would have matched his brother Joey's achievements.
This time, it seems that it was a high speed seizure.

RIP Robert, thanks for the memories, and enjoy the roads up there.

I'm really struggling at the moment with the numbers of racers that have been killed in the last couple of years.........we have lost some of the sports finest, doing their job which they enjoy and do so to entertain us. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dunlop family......

These are the names off the top of head that I can think of at the mo..

Robert Dunlop
Joey Dunlop
Daijiro Kato
Norrick Abe
David Jeffries
Darran Lindsay
Guy Sanders
Guy Farbrother
Martin Finnegan
John Donnan
Steve Hislop
Maurice Wilson
Jun Maeda
Marc Ramsbotham
Chris Jones
Ollie Bridewell
Guss Scott
Ronnie Smith
Barry Sheene

All missed and remembered...
