The solenoid on the side of the auto box appears to be the main cause. Next is the O'D relay which is by the gear shift. disconnect and reconnect works in most cases.
If it is the solenoid a check by connecing 12v directly to it and turning the ign on should make it click on/off. If nothing it needs replacing amd I've no idea if it is a simple bolt on thing or not.

I'd still take it for a good run and switch the O/D button in and out and see if it works.

Thanks Clive...

The OD does work ok.....I've tried clicking it in and out. But I can't quite make my mind up whether the lock up is coming on if I flick the OD off then on again....so I have to take it somewhere that I can run faster/longer and tell.

It's the lockup which doesn't seem to come on, on it's own.....although with the black fluid the gears changed quickly anyway, 2500 revs....now, unless I ease my foot off, they change about 3000 revs, which is probably right.

My concern is the higher needle on the gauge....it's obviously being caused by the revs being higher, cos there is no other sign of anything, but with the head being done last year, and still under warranty, I'm just a bit wary of leaving it.

Glyn has been having a look round Toby and has found the nearside rear brakes sticking. He's taken it apart and it needs new pads....it is worn down to a wafer.

He says that cos the wheel has been sticking then that might be why it's running a bit warmer. He's going to go all round the brakes and change them all.

Clive......what are the best shoes and pads to get for the front and back?

I used Toyota pads as I got them off ebay as new old stock. Last forever as they contain asbestos!
And Unipart Spacecruiser shoes as I had a set left over from the Spacecruiser and they fit.
Now I don't know if yours being a 4WD are the same?
If you have them off take them along to your local parts shop and get a match from the books, most likely Blueprint, ADL or Drive chain should do them.

Glyn has picked the pads and shoes up from his motor dealer, and now I'm waiting for his mechanic to give me a day to put them on.

The brakes on Toby are being done tomorrow....so that will be good.

I've been a ride round again tonight, and he is still getting hotter than he did......and I can't figure it out. He's got water in, he's got enough oil in, and he sounds ok. He smells a bit hotter from underneath when I stop, and the temp gauge is hovering between just left of the thermometer, where it usually is, to just to the right of it. The Mason Alarm was actually bleeping a bit tonight too......

When the brakes have been done tomorrow, then I'll go a run round and see if it's still the same. If it is, then I'll have to be very careful going down to Bromsgrove.....
