hi u said it should be red does it just mean it needs changing if its not red or is it that there is a problem with the gear box if so what could b wrong with the box or what can it cause the box to do i am asking as my oil is getting ready to change thats all and what grad of oil do i need to put back in the gear box

If it's not red it's probably just overused remembering the age of these buses and the distance a lot of them have covered.

Dextron 2 or 3 are the way to go. 2 for normal use and 3 is apparently better if you plan on towing. Local motor factors for ATF as halfords prices are awful

Default All sorted!!

All done - I've brought the bus back from my local mechanic today & it's all sorted - the kickdown cable had seized & the pivor point at the lower end of the cable had done the same, so the box was continually trying to kickdown, so staying in first. I'd forgotten what a nice drive she is - up nice & high with lots of visibility & very comfortable, with a nice slow zen-promoting driving style.

Seeing that I've bitten the bullet & bought a nearly-new car in the meantime (which was a bargain & worth doing), this means that the bus will unfortunately be for sale - I'll get her cleaned up & take some pictures, then she'll be advertised on here for a week or so before going on ebay.
