Ah the old joke comes to mind.

"Darling, Why are you home so late?"

"well me Dear---- Piston broke"

"I know you are Honey, but why are you so late home?"

Or
the farmer was being towed along the road by his favourite chicken when the harness snapped and it flew off. the police said" Blimey mate you know you where doing 40 in a 30 limit. how come?
"Sorry officer but you wouldn't believe that my big hens gone as well"

Im going
"slam"

can you see whats wrong appart from the oil everywhere.
Hi Bob,

My light tapping has become a loud knocking so it is about to go pop ... (fcuked was the technical term used by my local garage who put it on the ramps to rule out the SADs) what would you recommend? (other than stop using it!)

If I could get a replacement engine could/would you come & fit it?
If so, when & how much would it cost please?

Many thanks, Mike

I had thesame prob and for hassle free i went for an engine rebuild, 12 months g/tee and full report on engine all reboured, skimed 1700, you can buy a second hand engine but the head could go. I had mine done when the knocking drowned out the noise of the stereo full blast......good luck.....

Thanks Steve,
That's a very good idea as the rest of my bus is fine (except the wastegate valve actuator) ~ a bit more £s than I was hoping for.
Where did you go for that?
Cheers,
Mike

stockport engineers, but ask around at the work shops, see where the local garauges send there motors for a rebuild, see who has a good rep, keep looking as ow in this climate you might get a good deal and even cheaper, i was desperate so did not shop around as much, try google engine rebulild or engineers and your area, good luck, and yes all the rest of the bus was fine so that is why i went for the rebuild.......steve...

iv noticed when you do an oil change, you cant get all the oil out because the drain plug is on the side not the bottom, next time i take sump off im gonna get one welded on the the bottom , mite save all the caca build up.

Hi Mike

I would drain the engine oil and remove the sump to inspect the big ends.

You might be able to get away with a set of big end shells if the crank and conrod are not damaged, but I suspect that the big end bearing surface of the crank will be damaged.
(In which case it will require engine out and strip to regrind crankshaft and refit with new shells)

Your faulty Turbo actuator most likely caused the failure of the big end due to excessive boost pressure in the cylinder overloading it.

I would keep my fingers crossed ... but I then I can't type very easily.

I'll wish you luck instead!

My sump has a lovely dent/scratch along the bottom where it's hit a speed bump/kerb or something. Had the sump plug been sticking out the bottom, it would probably have been ripped out completely.

Remove and clean the sump by all means, but I wouldn't recommend fitting a drain plug in the bottom of it. (Toyota have put it where it is for a reason!)
