Default Hello and stuff :)

Hello to all the toyota drivers out there. have got an Estima 2.2td l reg imported ourselves approx 3.5 yrs ago, through autoadvan, who were exceedingly helpful at the time, recommended.

However in here because we now have a prolem i cannot sort because it needs accurate diagnosis, hoping somebody can help.
The problem is this: engine starts fine, ticks over fine. pulls away in first a bit sluggish but definate lack of power , in second or on any sort of hill we have very little pull and get black smoke when i put my foot down more, the oil light comes on , and she wont go more than about 30,
turbo seems to spinning but makeing some not so nice noise, but could this be due to crappy old oil as hasnt been changed in a LLOOOOng time ( i know! im a bad man ) the acuating arm on the turbo gate seems to move freely.

Sorry it's not very technical hoping somkeone can make sense of this and help us out. Tom.

The arm will move freely even if the actuator is shot, although from what you describe the first thing I'd have a look at is the EGR valve.
There should be a lot on it in here somewhere

Welcome to the site

Edit - Missed the bit about the oil light, even less confident in my diagnosis than I was when I posted in the first place

Hi,
You've come to the right place - there are genuine Estima gurus here.

I'd see if the EGR valve is blocked off - do a search on the site and you will find out how.

If not, then I would be a bit concerned about the turbo itself - but clever people on the site will be able to give a better diagnosis.

However - I would urge you to get under the car and change that oil - and to go even further (you deserve the extra mess for missing oil changes) and take to sump off as I expect it will be full of sludge. From various postings on the site I think very regular oil changes are vital - more so than on some other cars.

Hi and welcome.

I would say you have to change that oil.
Ask Pink Lou or JJ about what happens if an engine isn't looked after

( Note, they looked after theirs, but the previous owner obviously hadn't )

Sounds like fuel starvation as well, change the fuel filter.

Revs away in park, put it into drive and then nothing, am I right?

if the oil hasnt been changed in ages id guess it needs a full service. oil and filter, air filter and fuel filter with a can of wynns injector cleaner in it. see how much difference that makes then get somebody to slap you for not looking after your bus

p.s welcome to the forum.

My reply was a bit brief (for me) - that's a better idea - full service kit, I would not be at all surprised if the problem goes after that.
May be worth checking when the cam belt was changed too - you certainly don't want that snapping.
It will be well worth investing the time and money on a really good service, these cars do seem to respond to clean injectors and fuel filters.
