Sounds like you could have a airlock in the coolant system as that could make the heater work now and again, it could be serveral things, but im sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon to give you the help and advice.....Debbie

Does it work on full speed?

It has been known for the resistors that control the lower speeds to burn out...

Most likely to be a loose connection - fuses don't tend to be intermittent, but still worth checking.

It's time to scrap the car.

Anyone who hasn't spent hours trying to work out the heater wiring to get the heater and air-con working have just had too easier a life.

Overheating, cracked heads, gungy oil, sads, urgent need to get the clock going ... are all mere trivia compared to a heater problem.

Oh, better ask - is it the climate control or the manual version - climate control has buttons and sliders that only do electrical things so there is no resistance to sliding them.
