Default Smoke

Hi All,
New to forum & car. Bought an Estima desiel automatic M reg as could not longer get the kids car seats into the Mondeo. Having cetain problems though. 1. Getting low milage as someone else mentioned. 2. Get a lot of black smoke on cold startup and no power for some time. Until it warms and the turbo kicks in there is quite a bit of smoke. Once up and running it runs very well and no smoke-no loss of power. Records show it was looked after except for the last year whilst it was in the hands of a so called mechanic. Ideas please.

Black smoke is often fixed by blanking the EGR valve.

Apparently, there's a tutorial in the members area showing how to do it...

When you change the fuel filter, put some Wynn's Diesel Cleanup in the filter pot. This will clean up any carbon build up in the valves/injectors etc.

A lot of folks put a litre of diesel in, then run for a few minutes before draining the oil

Oh..and if it's gooey around the filler cap, it might be best removing the sump and checking that isn't full of jelly too.
