Default Water leak in boot

Hello All

I was trying to take the interior side panel out the other day and noticed there is water under the carpet in the boot.

I am kinda angry as the past 3 run around cars I have bought has leak in it , thought I have found a good run around/family car this time, but it doesnt look like it.

Anyway. I am going to ask to see if I have fixed the problem and trying to find out if this is a normal thing with estima.

My first thought of this water in the boot was due to the boot seal. I had a look all around and noticed a rip/large hole on one side. Can you tell me if this is the problem?? check out my pics.

1 and 2 is drawn in the pics to show you where the holes are. I see small holes all around the seal but I guess this is the let air out and water to pass through. but there is 2 larger holes at the bottom of the seal.

This hole is where I drew 1 in the pic above

This is the large hole where I drew 2 in the pic above

This is where the water is..........

there isnt much here as I have mopped up loads the day before. infact the water was almost filled the hole. I am not sure if that water is left over from where I have try to mop up before (I didnt mop all of it up) or is there more water coming in. The thing is. since I have mopped the 1st batch of water. I have replaced the boot seal (from a scrap emina) so I am not sure if the new seal is still leaking.

Can someone please help me? I am really annoyed with this. If it's a serious problem then it's going back to GT motors.

never had a problem with mine, your seal doe's look badly ripped ?
empty your boot climb in the back shut the boot and get an assistant to spray the hose pipe over the tail gate, if it leeks you
should see the water running in.

The thing is I have replaced the seal with another seal since I have seen this leak. The new seal looks alot better than the one I had on before. Do you think that water would get in the boot from the bottom area of the seal. and does that hole looks like the answer?

I got a 93 estima with a dent at the bottom of the door but no leaks can only see it being the seal thats letting in water so new seal should sort it.

the holes on the bottom of the boot lid is to channel condensation out but that shouldnt go in to the boot

your boot from the picture closes flush so the seal should be getting a good connection, do the hose test the only other place i the water could get in is through the window seal

if you do as I surgested in my first post you will get your answer
is the tail gate closing tight against the seal ? is the body twisted causing the tail gate not to shut tight , has some one run in the back at some time

Mine has a slight leak somewhere around the rubber seal where the glass fits into the tailgate.

When I wash it with a jet wash it never seems to get through, yet when it rains it runs down the inside and then tends to drip off the inside of the tailgate when it is opened.

It might be worth trying with a hose after applying some soapy water first to help reduce the surface tension of the water.

I'll climb in the boot and get my wife to hose the car down. The other thing is, my emina has soft closure, kinda odd when I dont shut my boot properly and it does it for me.

Any idea how much will a window rubber/seal will cost? and should I buy it from toyota? I got quoted £115 for the boot seal

I can always get it from another estima lucida. theres a P reg one which is breaking. will that fit if I rip it from that? Does all 92 emina - lucida share the same boot all the way to 96/98?
