Default Re: What you`ll find under the bonnet (2.2TD) 1992

I've just had my local garage do an oil and filter change (though about doing it myself but didn't want to do something wrong - wasn't sure how hard it is to get underneath and find the sump plug) I have just driven half a mile home and looked at the dipstick where the oil is still black. the guy in the garage seems genuine and is a member of 'the good garage scheme'. Is this normal in the lucida for the oil to be black even after a change or do you think he is pulling a fast one? If he hasn't changed the oil and I drive for another 5,000km what damage could it do? I should have waited for Bob to do the work but panicked because the light was on and have a 500 mile round journey to liverpool this weekend to get some hydrogen cells fitted and meet my new niece!

What you are seeing is normal. When you put new clean oil in its goes black the second you run the engine. But I suppose looking at it from another perspective it would make it hard to tell if it has or has not been changed.

Thanks - that's all i needed to hear, he did seem a genuine guy. Just that my previous car was a Citroen Picasso with a modern engine and the oil stayed clean for several hundred miles so wasn't expecting black oil.

Now i can relax and get those Hydrogen cells fitted - will feedback on how they perfom - that's if the engine doesn't blow up on my way home!!
