Default David Davis

Principled politician ( whether or not you agree with his stand point ) or egotistical maniac?

My view point...
I think here we finally have a politician willing to put his neck / career on the line for something he actually believes in. How refreshing!!!

For what it's worth.
I agree with his view on civil liberties and although the government says I'm in a minority and 75% of the population agrees with 42 days imprisonment without trial / charge, I haven't met ANYONE who agrees with that. Funny that isn't it?

Or am I just an old cyninc?

don't know much about his background so can't vote.
as for the 42 days , if they are caught planning or participating or aiding and abetting a terrorist act it should be obvious and they should be on traitors gate by the following morning.

I wouldn't take that long.

But look at other "terrorist" legislation.
ie. The right to protest near the house of commons. This has been banned under terrorist laws, so even the guy in his little tent who's been there for years protesting has been moved on.

The extradition laws with America. They can now pretty much ask for ANY UK citizen and we have to send them over, to make it easier to catch terrorists. The most famous case under that law was for corporate fraud ( the "Natwest 3" ). But it doesn't work the other way around

Once these draconian laws are passed, they can be used for instances totally unforseen when they were passed.

The guy is still there isn't he he challenged the ruling in the courts and as his protest preceeds the change of law they had to allow him to continue his peacefull protest, glad to see the small guy win occasionally , though I believe he may have a few generous backers who were only too pleased to poke the big guy in the eye.
