Further exploration has revealed the "Button of Mystery" simply makes a ground connection when pressed , I traced one of the two wires connected to it to an earthing point. The other wire disappears behind the dashboard, is not visble behind the radio or at the relays behind the glove box , so I still have no real idea what it is for!

has it got a top end alarm system could be a panic button

Slowly Slowly Catchee Monkey (google it )

Its a possibility, button doesn't do anything now though. I plan to take the dash out this weekend, so I may investigate further....

That being the case, it must (or did) earth something out. Has your wagon got a TV/DVD in the dash, does grounding that switch make it so that you can watch TV on the move, with it off, the TV says someting like 'TV unavailable whilst driving' as ours does. Effectively does the same joh as putting the parking brake on!

Other than that switching to earth is unusual for an accessory, although Toyota do tend to switch most things on the earth rather than the live.

HTH, regards, Rob.

Good suggestion, but no my bus had no TV in the dash when I bought it. It has a roof mounted TV and one in the sun visor, however both of these are activated by another switch on the opposite side of the steering wheel from the "Button of Mystery".

Just a thought.......

i wonder if your bus had some sort of aftermarket lighting fitted in the past(ie..strobes lights or something similar)

I had a set of strobes on my old bus that had a similar switch to cahnge the "strobing" pattern...Similar to this!!!!

Quite possible and another good suggestion, I have found surplus wiring to the back of the bus which looks like it may have been for an amplifier or bass speaker, so its quite possible lighting was fitted as well.

I must remember to ask at Autobase where the bus is being "repaired" , although I am not confident of their competency - it may be interesting to find out what they say.

Hello,

Can anyone tell me what the button arrowed in the attached picture is supposed to do ? If I press it nothing obvious seems to happen.

Attachment Button.jpg

The other switches from right to left are fairly obvious, door mirror control, power door control, switch for rear fog lamp (for SVA), then there is the doorbell like button.

Many Thanks

BBB

P.S.

The wife thinks its a button you press to find drivers who should have more important things to worry about.......

Whilst replacing the CD changer with an Amp under the passenger seat I found the other end of the cable attached to the button. Seems it was to turn off the unit fitted to the CD changer to enable it to play VCDs. Anyway, not needed now so I have removed it!
