Well, France is cancelled this year. The promised bonus didn't appear :lac:

So, we are going to Scotland for a fortnight. Never taken the kids before and it must be about 12 years since I was last up there.
I could use some ideas for places to visit. We are having a week in Callander, then probably a week in Musselburgh ( just outside Edinburgh).

I can think of things to see round Callander, Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument etc. But I've never been to South East Scotland.

Does anyone have any ideas? I want to make sure there are things to do before I book the carava site :sofa:

North Berwick not far from Edinburgh is a really nice old fashioned seaside town, there's a nice coast road run down that side, and further south St Abbs is a lovely place too, depends on what you like really, St Abbs is famous for diving and is very quiet - no pubs or load places are allowed there! I love that part of Scotland, there's Roslin Chapel as well, close to Edinburgh, if you're into the Templar stuff, masonic consparicies etc etc, or just strange and fascinating old buildings ... Bass rock full of gannets, Tantallon castle and others, a great part of the world.

Not planning on going that far North this time.
But I know what you mean about the scenery in this country. Only ever been abroad once. Although finances play a part in that too :sofa:

Old fashioned seaside town sounds good to me. Along with intersting architecture...I'm happy

shame your only going to the east. the better scenery and places are on the west side but 1 thing thats true for each coastline in scotland is the further up north you travel the better it gets. just depends on how far you want to travel :winks:

Hmmm. Thought about west, but wanted to pop into Edinburgh. Still, might just do that from Callander.

Journey time is a concern. Google Map reckons on 5 hours from North Berwick, so with the caravan on the back, I can add a bit more. Don't want to be driving any further than that.

Where would you suggest on west side? Stayed in Castle Douglas a few times when I was younger.

I'll second North Berwick and the surrounding area, Eyemouth is a lovely little place. Trouble with the East coast is despite the lovely bits there's also Burntisland, Kirkcaldy, Dundee and Skinflats :sofa:

Most of it is nice though B)

Well, we've found a Caravan Club site just North of North Berwick, and as I've never been that way before, looks like that's where we'll head.

Claims there's a beach 5 mins walk away, but i'd imagine the water to be... erm..less than warm
