Try using Firefox (www.firefox.com). Your problem may be caused by IE which is buggy at the best of times.

Okay after talking to dave he has explained it is not the IE toolbar he wants rid of its the text style fonts bar for the reply box , If you look closely at the screen shot it is right across the middle of the reply box so stops him seeing what he is typing. He has tried it on other pc's so not his setup.

This happens to me to! I have to keep hitting the enter bar until I can get the cursor down under the "bar" so I can see what I'm typing!! Then hit the backspace to get the text back to the top! Just thought it was my "steam powered" computer up to its usual tricks!!

I can't duplicate this problem in either firefox or IE but have you tried clicking on the editor size buttons?

They are the two buttons on the top right of this pic and highlighted in yellow

This may work as a work around as it gives you a smaller or larger space to type into.

I tried with IE today and could not duplicate error either. Usually this is a CSS incompatibility with a browser. Perhaps if all those who are having the problem posted the browser and version they are using this would help the site techs to fix it. There are some huge issues with the older browsers.

Exactly the same for me, IE7 running on XP. Was fine before New Year.

I just want a button to turn it off as I don't use it.

Works fine in edit mode.

The size buttons don't help as the top of the edit bar stays in the same place about 5 lines down, and then you are typing in the dark.

Why not upgrade your browser to IE8? You might find it fixes the problem and your computer would be a lot more secure. There are serious security issues with older versions of IE. That is why I am loathe to even open it on my computer and if I had my way I would uninstall it. Of course MS does not allow that to happen.

As a MCE I know that but as I have programs that need IE7 and some old DOS programs that often strugggle in XP , and no I can't upgrade as I wrote them and my programming skills stopped in the late 80's. I have heavy anti-virus and firewall protection so not caught up in the hysteria of security.
All typed under the text editor !

So how do I remove it can't find anything in Admin control panel?

There is the option to turn of the RTE (rich text editor) in the user CP

Click on your username on the top right of screen and go to settings then you should see the following pic... try unchecking the highlighted box.

Also note that it states the browsers that are compatible.

I've played with toggling that box but still not perfect with it selected but far better than not. Still a pain when not using a full screen view, but I can live with it.
