Have you checked your Auto oil for colour (needs to be Cherry red) and level (when warm) might need a good flush through maybe. I've noticed mine is a little hesitant first thing on these cold winter mornings I just put it down to the cold making the oil that bit thicker as it has been an exceptionally cold winter (59th coldest since records began in 1600's)

I was going to make a facetious comment about me not being able to move in the morning but thought better of it

Hi fellow Sheffieldite,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean - Do you mean that your car starts no problems, but when put into drive it's sluggish to move unless the revs are increased? [I assume you have a 4WD and autogear box]
My understanding is that these cars are sluggish until warm. The auto gears take time to warm up, so most people go gentle on the revs until up to temperature. I'd also ask when your auto gear box oil was last checked (it should be a nice red colour - the dipstick under the passenger seat to the rear of the bus (orange?). There's a thread on how to check it - engine running, move it through gears, or something like that!) If it's not been changed for a while or it's a dark brown colour that may help.

Andy

As long as it's just a slight reluctance to move off the line while cold and doesn't go on to make reversing slow or non-existent when warm/hot then an ATF change should be enough. If not, then you could be looking at a replacement box as an overhaul of the existing box isn't particularly economic.
Another sign of a failing box (in conjunction with the above) is delayed or non-existent torque converter lockup at 50mph. However, on its own, this can just be sign of a failed solenoid which is a simple and cheap fix.
Yesterday was a good day to die. Today has been even better. I can't wait to see what tomorrow will be like Posted Image

it's a sure sign the torque converter is getting a bit tired
if it's just a case of raising the revs a bit to get moving it isn't all bad at the moment
the next step is not moving at all untill it's warmed up a bit and then finaly total failure ( usually with a pool of transmition fluid undermeath the bus )

my first bus was like you describe but the good news is two years down the line it's not really changed so it doesn't seem too much to worry about

Is the problem for the first few seconds or for an extended period? If its just at the very start then i am sure Bob said it was fairly normal due to the fans?????

with theses low temps we have had .oil is much thicker .and would take a few mins to warm and move about .autos need time ,i have on theses cold days start the bus and moved off and yes it is slow .but if you let it tick over for a few mins it makes it a lot better .
you should find this will be better next week as the temp is going up a bit
