Hi all first time i've posted a comment but read soooo many and all of use, this site is the bible for our buses.
I have had my bus for 6 months now and think they are a fantastic machine, i have a 93 2.2td 4wd, but since getting i have always checked oil from under the seat and from day one the oil has always been high, it was just service before i got it and runs like a dream. But the other day the oil light starting coming on when it was started and idle for a short time, it then went off and was fine for the day, i did check it and was just above full still. i started to wonder if the dipstick in the engine (3ct) was the correct one, anyway a day or so later it came on again and flashed on then would go off for a while then come back on after 5 mins fine again, so i went and got some oil dropped a small bit in as i dont like cars been over full, and since then seems fine.
So i was just wondering if anyone could give me the measurements for the correct dipstick please and the measurements on the markings all from the top of the dipstick tube pls to see if mine is correct or not
In advance thanks for your time
Chris

I doubt you've got the wrong dipstick in it, although nothing is impossible. What is more likely is that the engine was overfilled at the last oil change. Alternatively does your bus have the auto top up bottle under the bonnet? If you have it will be next to the battery. This little gizmo takes its instructions from a sensor in the sump which, if it detects a low oil level, pumps a 'glug' of oil into the sump at startup. Unfortunately the sensors have a tendency to sticking in the low position so the system chucks a bit of oil through at every startup which soon leads to the sump being overfilled. If you do have the auto filler it has it's own level sensor which will complain if the bottle starts to empty and could just as well cause the engine oil light to flash.
Other than dropping the sump to clean it out you will have to flush the engine once or twice, at the next oil change, with a 50:50 mix of DERV and cheap engine oil before fitting a new filter and topping up with a 10w40 (or thinner) semi-synthetic engine oil. Because of the potential problems with the auto top up system a lot of owners disconnect it and top up manually and check the oil level via the dipstick only
Yesterday was a good day to die. Today has been even better. I can't wait to see what tomorrow will be like Posted Image

yea i thought the same with the oil filler under the bonnet but checked this from the day i bought it and this is still at the same level as i bought so pressume that the pump no longer working or sensor stuck, but since i've added a small bit of oil approx 1/2 litre the light is now not coming on at all, but still showing over the full mark on the dipstick, i have been worrying about it being over full but i have left alone as the bloke who serviced the bus has done for 10 yrs, i was just unsure this week when the light came on about 5 mins after starting and left idle and flicked on and off at random not as though it was a warning of being full, and after the second time this happened i added the oil and since then not come on at all, so this would tell me that it was more on the empty side rather than full. So this was the reason i was wondering about dipstick length. Thanks for your reply and i will double check the oil filler bottle, but do know that this is not the cause, cheers
Chris
